The second quarter of the year has been very busy as it has included Easter and the Minchinhampton 750 celebrations. On Good Friday I tolled the tenor bell at the end of the Vigil Service. Catharina Rickett and David Goldsmith were also in attendence so they are now trained for future years. We rang for the opening 750 Service & also for the opening of the Pageant. We also rang for the concluding service with the Bishop in attendance as well as the quadruple rectorial service in the morning.
At lunchtime on the big day a quarter peal of 1260 changes of Plain Bob Doubles was rung by the following:
Treble Angie Ayling [Minchinhampton]
2 Carole Bucknell [Bisley]
3 Peter Smith [Linton,Kent]
4 Ian Bucknell [Bisley] Conductor.
5 Andrew Fleming [Minchinhampton]
Tenor Colin Shellard [Minchinhampton]
The treble ringer is the daughter of the late Canon Cornwall and all the ringers have served at Minchinhampton under various rectors.
A couple of our ringers rang at the Cathedral when it was the Stroud branch turn to ring for evensong and we were awarded a Commended certificate in the Association Tidy Towers competition. In the branch ringing competition at Woodchester we were placed 5th out of 7 teams in what was a very close contest. Four of us then attended the following BBQ.
We have had a busy summer of ringing for weddings which, in the very hot weather, was quite hard work, as I am sure you can imagine! I do want to thank my team and all those who support them for the Saturday afternoons they have given to ringing for the various wedding couples.
I have recently been on tours to Northumberland, Durham and the Welland Valley and have rung at 60 new towers in the last three months including such secular oddities as Hartlepool Art Gallery, Morpeth Watch Tower, Berwick on Tweed Town Hall and the mini-ring at the Black Bull pub at Frosterley, Co Durham
Congratulations to Catharina Rickett on her recent Confirmation, and to Darrell Russell, the new RBL standard bearer; both are loyal ringers here.
David Pobjoy.
Captain of the Tower.
